There is a particular light in Porto that people notice before they can name it. It comes off the Douro in the late afternoon and turns half the city gold. It goes flat and silver over the beaches at Foz, low through the trees at the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal, long across the grass at Parque da Cidade. This is a city that turns into home faster than most people plan for.
I'm Mary, and for 12 years I've been photographing families here — more than 200 of them. Families rooted in Porto, families who arrived last year and are still finding their bakery, families here for a week who want one real photograph of themselves in this place.
My approach is simple: I photograph the way your family feels. Editorial in how it looks, warm in how it feels. Natural light, no posing, in English, German, Spanish, Italian or a little bit of Portuguese.

The other side of the river, and the best view of Porto there is. Jardim do Morro at golden hour, the rabelo boats down at the cais, and the wide beaches at Lavadores and Canidelo.
Cobbles, tiled façades, and warm light falling between buildings that have stood there for centuries. Best early in the morning, before the crowds arrive.
Late afternoon, when the light comes low through the trees and the city drops away toward the river. Wide gravel paths and room for children to run.
Green, open, and no audience. Lakes, long grass, and a straight walk down to the sea — ideal for toddlers in a running phase.
Your kitchen, your balcony, the café you go to every Saturday. Cedofeita, Bonfim, Boavista — wherever your ordinary week happens. Natural light through your own windows is enough.

A mini session is 270€. That covers the 20-minute planning call, 45 minutes at one location, every edited image from the session, your private gallery within 5 working days, and 10% off the print shop.
How does a mini session work, and how many photos do we get?
How does a mini session work, and how many photos do we get?
We meet at one location — Gaia, Ribeira, Palácio de Cristal, Parque da Cidade, or wherever suits you. Forty-five minutes, no posing. You receive every good edited image from the session, in colour and black & white. No fixed count, nothing to upgrade to afterwards.
What should we wear?
What should we wear?
Soft colours and fabrics that move. Nothing with large logos or busy patterns, and nothing anyone can't sit on the ground in. I send a full guide with examples once your date is booked.
What time of day is best for family photos in Porto?
What time of day is best for family photos in Porto?
It depends where we go. For sessions in the city — Ribeira, the old streets, your own neighbourhood — I recommend very early in the morning, before the crowds arrive. For the beach or the parks, the hour or two before sunset. We'll work out which one fits your family on the consultation call.

Children being children is not a problem — it's where the best photographs come from. I've worked with every age, including toddlers and babies. Even the most chaotic forty-five minutes produce honest images.

I watch the forecast, and if it's genuinely bad — heavy rain, strong Atlantic wind — we reschedule at no cost. Soft, overcast light is often ideal, so grey days usually go ahead.
